Professor Boyer at Virginia Tech is a professor of a very large "megaclass." His class has over 2,000 students, which has led him to experiment with various ways to keep students engaged and learning. He uses a variety of social media to interact with students, even holding synchronous office hours which students can come to in person or just log in and interact with him through an instant messenger. But he also pushes the boundaries of social media in very unique ways. For example, he and his class made a YouTube video asking Ms. Suu Kyi, the Nobel Peace Prize winner from Myanmar, for an interview... and they got it! She attended a live interview via Skype. And they didn't stop there - they invited many other high-profile people to be guests in their classroom, and have interviewed Emilio Estevez, Martin Sheen, and Jason Russell, among others. In this way, students are able to interact with people they otherwise would never have had the chance to meet. (Parry 2012)
